[Main Index] [Next entry: "DOLL GRAVEYARD"]

05/31/2005: "May 31, 2005"

I'm starting with this entry to let you all know on a weekly basis what's up with my movies, various projects and action figures! I guess it's my blog as well as a way to communicate and answer so many questions that are coming to me over the net. So here's what's going on: I started Wizard Entertainment with the help of a financial partner about 7 months ago. I've managed to direct 4 movies so far with 4 more scheduled to shoot between now an the end of 2005. For the first time in my crazy career I will be able to devote myself 100% to the creative - and will continue to direct all or most of the movies. Concurrent with the features Wizard Toys will be creating and marketing a new line of action figures. They will be very limited editions - in most cases numbered and signed. The first three releases will be available in August and will feature "Marvin" the lurid, depraved homunculus from our first Wizard feature, DECADENT EVIL and Blade and Tunneler from the original Puppetmaster. The sculps on these new puppets are amazing and to tie this into the series in a meaningful way we will produce a limited signed and numbered run of 1,990 units. 1990 was the year the first Puppetmaster was released!!!
Last week I completed directing DOLL GRAVEYARD - I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I worked with some very talented young actors along with x4 extremely nasty dolls. You can check out some early footage at fullmoondirect.com - This week I will be concentrating on the final stages of post production of my film, THE GINGERDEADMAN as well as making sure everything goes well with the DVD authoring and replication for DECADENT EVIL. (Decadent will be available at local retail stores at the end of June.) I'm also approving the final sculpts and packaging for the first 3 Wizard Toys releases - I hope to have some images up in about one week. And we're preparing to attend the Fangoria Convention here in LA June 4-5th. I'll be signing and saying hello to anyone who comes to visit our table between 1:00 and 3:00PM both days. Phil Fondocaro will also be there signing on Saturday (3:00-5:00.)
And if this week isn't crazy enough I'm going to see my son Alex perform at the Silverton in Las Vegas this Friday. He's the lead singer of The Calling and has already had several #1 hits! Well - that's enough for the moment! I will do my best to tell you what's going on every week!

This is good Charle. I was worried that you would be in the gutter for the rest of forever, but I was wrong. Looks like things will be getting back to normal for you. Ah, the good ol' days are coming back.

HI I love your movies band, but to save u alot of angry replies I'll ask the question now. Why did full moon go down hill, theis probably alot of reasons still a official reason would be nice.

Also what about PM vs. DT being released on DVD do u still have the rights to the sales.

If you could answer these questions i'd be much thankful.

Blade2000 said @ 06/01/2005 03:29 AM PDT

Band, man you really are someone to admire. You never seem to fall down, without getting up.

The reason FM went down was because they lost support from Paramount and had to 100% finance their own films, lowering the budget and increasing risk of failure.

Hello !
Thanks for keeping us up to date ! I can't wait to see your new movies !
I'm a fan of your son and I can't wait to hear his new music !

It's great news to hear that you will be letting everyone know what's going on with your new company. I have been a a huge fan of Full Moon/Shadow since early 1990/91 and own 90% of all of their films, and am looking forward to picking up the new Wizard titles.

Wish you the best with Wizard.

YES ! Charlie Band is back !!!
It's great to see that you weathered the storm and are back to make more of my all-time favorite b-movies. There are a couple of things that I (and most of your fans) would love to see. That is:

1- All of your classics from Paramount released on dvd. I've wore out 2 VHS copies of Meridian already !!!!!!!!

2- A good Puppet Master sequel. The recent sequel made for the Sci-Fi channel just didn't cut it. You need to do it your way, with a good storyline and all of the blood and gore !!!

In closing, I just want to thank-you for starting this blog and giving all of your fans a way to communicate directly with you. I will always hold you up there with Roger Corman as the 2 kings of the b-horror movie genre.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK !

Welcome Back ! said @ 06/05/2005 08:04 PM PDT

Charles Band,

Thank you for all the wonderful movies you have made as director and/or producer.During the nineties I really enjoyed the Fullmoon features and the videodrome segment afterwards. This was before dvd extras! At the time I would go to my video rental store and rent out the new releases as they came out.I felt like I was in some small exclusive club!

I'm probably dating myself but I also enjoyed many of your Empire releases during the eighties when they played in theatres.Back then they played in movie houses in "the Deuce"(Times Square in New York City) usually with two other features.Your films were always the most enjoyable.

Over the years I have managed to collect just about every title on videocassete and have enjoyed them all many times over.

I think perhaps the only time I was disappointed with your film company was when they were shot on digital.I suspect you didn't have much control over the content of those films.

But it's absolutely great to discover that you are back on the scene and producing new features that are shot-on-film!I always knew you would come back on the scene. You see, besides watching your films it's been fun reading about your film career.I am eager to follow this new chapter in your film career and your new films.

Live Long and Prosper!

Hey Charles. Great to see you're working. We lost you for a while there. All your fans are thrilled your back and I am completely ecited about it. Puppetmaster series rocked BIG time. I didn't like it when it went a little gay under the direction of Dave Decouteu, I think his movies are OK but the classic Puppetmaster should stay out of that in my opinion. Anyway good to see you man your movies rocketh. When don't you get Bruce Campbell for the next one or get Denise Duff or Debbie Rochon, I know you worked with both of them before and they're good actresses plus uber hot. Thanks for listening, rock on!

Samuel from LA said @ 06/22/2005 05:38 AM PDT

Hi Charles!
I cannot say that I have be a long time follower as others are of your work, but my knowledge of you was primarily through the the art & craft of Stop Motion Animation, which you have used in your past projects. Of course, I am most familiar with David Allen & Jim Danforth.
I believe computer special effects and new digital tools are tremendous boon to B moviemaking, however when it comes to character representation, using pure CGI, many times it can have a very artificial quality, floaty feel, or it looks too airbrushy. In my own opinion, by combining the special effects technologies .... using "traditional" special effects such as miniatures, puppets, animatronics, and then in post production, "digitally" compositing, tweaking and enhancing in post .... will yield a more naturalistic feel. In the genre of horror, sci-fi or fantasy, Stop Motion can give that surreal, dreamlike ambiance. Stop Motion would blend in better with traditional animatronics and live puppetry work. For your reference with regards to Stop Motion resources and specialty talent or skills, you might want to save-bookmark this website .....
Stop Motion Animation Resources & Forum
www.stopmotionanimation.com
Hopefully, in your future projects, you will consider Stop Motion Animation, which as you already know, can add high production values .... continuing the Ray Harryhausen & David Allen tradition! Stop Motion is not dead!!
Best regards,
Lionel

Hello Mr.Band I just want to tell you I have been a huge fan since the Empire days and I consider the Full Moon era to be the best. Because of your films I now have a love for movie making and hope to be a film maker just like you. My favorite movie of all time is Puppet Master 3 Toulon's Revenge. Also it would be cool to see you bring back some of your older movies like Ghoulies and Dolls. I love those movies and would love to see sequels made to them by your new company Wizard Entertainment. I hope you bring back the Puppet Master series because the recent ones have not been that good. A new Demonic Toys movie would be great too and you could have Dollman come back and fight the killer toys again. I can't wait to see Doll Graveyard because I hear good things about on the net. I just want to say thanks again and your movies have really changed my life. Keep up the good work and good luck with Wizard Entertainment!
